There are many comparisons between WSS and SharePoint. We have to know where to use WSS and where to use SharePoint.
First we discuss about WSS and SharePoint separately.
Window SharePoint Services 3.0: It is also known as WSS. WSS is a core document management and collaboration platform features. Normal user can create web-based business application without numerous technical resources by using WSS. WSS is available free with window server 2003. Because it has predefined templates and site modules, users can easily users can add documents, images and information via simple form rather than by help of developer. Anybody can create new site by using existing templates in just few seconds. WSS is tightly integrated with MS Office so users can easily create and share content using familiar tools like Microsoft word, Excel and Outlook.
Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007: It is also known as MOSS 2007. It has the robust, enterprise-target features of SharePoint products and Technologies, which accelerate business processes across the Internet, extranet and intranet. It provides the tools to create publish and manage web-based content from cohesive environment. SharePoint also offers the tools to automatically aggregate content from the WSS team sites, placing the content from multiple sites to central location, making information management much easier.
